Workplace violence has emerged as an important safety and health issue in today’s workplace. Preventing workplace violence is a difficult challenge.  Homicide is currently the fourth leading cause of fatal occupational injuries in the United States. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s response to the problem of workplace violence has been the production of OSHA’s guidelines and recommendations for implementation of workplace violence prevention programs.

Workplace violence can be any act or threat of physical violence, intimidation, harassment or other threatening disruptive behavior that occurs at the place of employment.  It may range from threats and verbal abuse to physical assaults and even homicide! It can affect and involve employees, clients, customers and visitors alike. Nearly 2 million workers annually throughout the United States report having been victims of workplace violence, with many more cases that go unreported.

Course attendees will be provided information on recognizing high-risk behaviors through observations, protection of themselves, their colleagues and the general public alike.  Active Shooter training will also be covered in this course, focusing on common survival techniques that include preparation, communication, having a survival mindset, run, cover, barricade and engage tactics.

Course attendees must complete a written test.  Upon successful completion, attendees will receive a certificate of completion wallet card valid for three (3) years.
